How To Clean and Care For Your Cabinets

To remove dust, simply wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth. The finish is durable and resistant to most household spills. However, spills should be wiped up promptly to avoid potential problems. To remove fingerprints or cooking residue, follow these steps:

Use a gentle cleaning solution:

Avoid using ammonia based cleaners or furniture polish; they can damage the finish over time. A mild all purpose cleaner is ideal. A mix of warm water and mild dish soap, or warm water and white vinegar in a spray bottle works well too. For wood cabinets, you can also use a wood cabinet cleaner.

Don’t spray the cabinets directly:

Spray the cleaning mixture onto a microfiber cloth or cotton towel until it’s just damp. Don’t over wet the surface, as moisture can damage your cabinets’ paint or finish. Spray more cleaner onto your cloth as needed, and wring out any excess.

Wipe down and rinse cabinets:

Using the damp cloth, wipe each cabinet face and door from top to bottom, and clean grime out of any molding. Then wipe the cabinets again with a cloth dampened with clean water to remove any residue.

Dry the cabinets after cleaning:

Leaving cabinets damp after cleaning can damage the finish. Use a soft cloth to dry all damp surfaces.

Spring clean the insides:

At least once a year, deep clean the cabinets by wiping out the insides. Empty all cabinets and drawers  and then wipe down the shelves, inside of drawers, and cabinet interiors, using the same cleaning method as above.

Protect the finish:

Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, high temperatures and high humidity can cause damage to cabinet finishes over time. Proper ventilation and window coverings will help to protect your investment.
